1929 A lettre to Lieutenant de KNORRÉ

Introduction

What this enveloppe lacks somewhat in its condition and the way it was stamped at the time it compensates by its history, more specific the person it was sent to.

In February 1929 a lieutenant of the 3e batallion of the 4e Regiment Etranger d’Infanterie sent a letter from Agadir to a lieutenant in Sidi Bel Abbès. Unfortunately the name of the officier serving with the 3/4 Etranger is difficult to read, could Iterm… or Herm…
The enveloppe was stamped Poste Aux Armées Agadir on 19-02-1929.
Stamped again in Casablanca Postes Maroc at 14h45 21-02-1929 and arrived and was stamped two days later in Sidi Bel Abbès Oran 13h15 23-02-1929.

Alexandre de Knorré was born on the 5th of mai 1894 in Saint Petersburg Russia.
He had served in the Russian Imperial Armee and after that from 1919 to 1920 in the Persian Army.
He joined the French Foreign Legion on the 13th of June 1925 as a sous-lieutenant at titre Etranger.

In the Journal officiel de la République française from 04-08-1927 following announcement about him can be found.

He was promoted to “grade de lieutenant á titre définitif”

A few months earlier 06-03-1927 it was announced in the L’Echo d’Oran that he was getting married with VAGNOUX, Yolande.
