Following photograph of a légionnaire was obtained via the auction site Delcampe.
Unfortunately the text on the back is rather difficult to read due to the lack of contrast,
even when using digital image enhancement.
This is what is most likely written on the back:

Based on his No Matr. he joined the Legion in the year 1936.
His collar patches have the cypher 1 on them indicating the 1ere Regiment.
Underneath the cypher is a colored spot identifying the battalion [1].
